Position Overview
Reporting to a Manager of Technical Services, the Long-Range Planning Engineer works with other engineers and geologists to maintain long-term mining plans, schedules, mining sequence, mine designs, ore reserves, mining process statistics and life-of-mine process scopes with a view to maximizing site NPV while adhering to site health & safety policies.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to the group and maintain synchronization of long term and short term designs.
- Through the team, rebuild long-term design shapes, panel designs, and development plans in CAD system.
- Optimize ore recovery with safe and effective designs and plan for high metal recovery (90%+) of the ore from the stopes, creating designs that minimize stope overbreak and underbreak.
- Co-ordinate work planning with Production Engineering and Mine Design group.
- Actively participate in all safety programs and initiatives.
- Prepare long-term development and stope sequencing strategies.
- Update LOM plan on annual basis.
- Ongoing evaluation of opportunities to enhance mining plan. With team, identify and implement business improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate must have:
- Possess a university degree - Bachelor of Mining Engineering or higher and qualify for professional designation
- Highly proficient computer & CAD design skills
- 3-6 years of experience in mining engineering, design and/or underground mining
- Project Management experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills to gather, analyze and interpret mining data and information
- Strong interpersonal skills – able to build good working relationships and adapt to changing conditions
- Able to work in short timeframes and deadlines and work well under pressure
- Able to work in underground environment
- Good time management and personnel supervisory skills
