Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will provide geotechnical planning, advice and operational support for Longwall, Development and Outbye activities. As a member of the Technical Services team, you will gain substantial exposure and experience in a broad range of operational activities across Oaky North Mine.

This role requires you to develop strong working relationships with operations personnel as well as with external subject matter experts and other stakeholders. 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing Geotechnical advice to the Longwall/ Development and Outbye Teams
  • Provide on shift technical support as required
  • Carryout inspections and ensure support standards are met in all areas
  • Apply site and GCAA framework guidelines to provide suitable geotechnical advice and plans
  • Provide primary / secondary and remedial support plans
  • Work closely with the site Geologist to provide details for the 1st/ 2nd workings and associated hazard plans

  • Be a systems thinker, goal orientated and highly organised, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • You will have experience and a working knowledge of Underground Coal Mining in regard to Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Possess tertiary qualification/s in Civil, Geotechnical and/or Mining Engineering or Geology with Post-Graduate qualifications in Strata Control.
  • Relevant operational experience (ideally 2-5 years) in a Geotechnical role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with operations personnel.
  • Applicants with RPEQ certification and/or CPEng experience will be highly regarded.
